SHADOWS and JOURNEYS

a site-specific, multi-media outdoor theatre performance using canyon walls whenever possible as the projection surface

designed and directed by Betsy Tobin

assisted by Margarita Blush

Nomads arrive at dusk at their chosen campsite. During the night their interlocking stories of survival lead to myths and memories from the past. Gripping acting scenes combine with ephemeral shadow and video sequences to portray stories inspired by the history and mythology of Colorado and the Southwest.

Performers invite audiences to join them beneath the stars in the ancient ritual of theatre as they interface with the elements in a natural setting. SHADOWS and JOURNEYS is evocative and compelling, tender and playful. This innovative show integrates acting, drumming, dance, puppetry, masks, shadow theatre, and video sequences to create stunning dramatic and visual effects.

Summer tours through canyon country have included the Great Sand Dunes, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and Zion National Parks, Eldorado Springs State Park, Timpanogos Caves, Cortez Cultural Center, and the South Rim of the Grand Canyon where the show was first

conceived.

Betsy Tobin is joined by an ensemble of actors,

musicians, dancers, and puppeteers. Past performers include Margarita Blush, Gwylym Cano, Bobby Dartt, Teri Diaz, Stacy Ginsburg, Michael Gunst, Odile Mauviard,

Katie Reinhardt, and Aaron Sanford (drummer).
